Main Tourist Attractions Of Silver Spring, Maryland

Friends of ours, Tommy & Sarah have visited Silver Spring many times and shared with us what they loved most about it.

Silver Spring is a small place in Maryland. It is one of the most populous cities in Maryland and had a population of 76,716 as per the census in 2013. The southern tip of the city is popular for its business establishments. The place was named after a spring with mica deposits which was discovered by Francis Blair in the year 1840.

Silver Spring has some interesting sites and tourist spots that are worth visiting. Listed below are some of the prominent ones.

  • Wheaton Regional Park

Located in Wheaton, the Park comprises of several gardens and sub-parks. It is a great place for a family picnic. The park has many recreational facilities that include a horseback riding trail, hiking trails, and ice skating area.

  • Sligo Creek Park

The park features a biking trail that runs over a beautiful creek. The bridges that form the part of the trail are quite attractive. The park has several playgrounds and recreational facilities.  This is a spot that Tommy, who owns Ultimate Roofing has visited many times every time down in the DC area…

  • Hillwood Estate, Museum and Gardens

 

Hillwood Estate is the former residence of Marjorie Merriweather Post which has been converted into an art gallery that also features beautiful gardens and many special exhibitions. It is located near Rock Creek Park and expands over an area of 25 acres. The museum is popular for its huge collection of decorative arts.

  • Brookside Gardens

 

Brookside Gardens is a part of the large Wheaton Regional Park. The place is popular for its garden of tulips. Tourists visit here to see the display of beautiful tulips during their blooming period. The gardens also have many beautiful landscapes and ponds.

  • Rock Creek Park

 

It is a beautiful urban park that features a horse center, a planetarium, and a nature center. It has amazing natural trails that are perfect for hiking trips.
