Sintra: Exploring the Enigmatic Town

Just as you leave Lisbon and enter into Sintra, it will feel like you are crossing over to some other world. The palace of Sintra had been the residence of Portuguese royalty. This property is surely going to take you by surprise. There are plenty of things that you can do and see here. Take a look at some of these things.

Quinta Da Regaleira

This is a gothic architectural masterpiece which has been the residence of several owners. The list includes Viscountess of Regaleira. Another owner of this estate had added the mysterious symbolism to it which you will be able to see through the grounds. I took a tour around the building and it took me around 2 hours.

Check out Pena Palace

This palace appears like it is straight out of the fairytale. It is set on the top of the mountain and has a multicolor tower. This is one of the primary attractions of the city. The architecture of the palace is truly marvelous. It is open from 9:30 am to 8 pm. It has been categorized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Go Hiking Around the Castle of the Moors

Just like the other attractions, this is also to be found at the top of the mountain. I took a bus to reach this castle. However, if you feeling a bit more adventurous, then you can hike to the castle. You just have to keep in mind that it doesn’t leisurely stroll. On the way capture some photos against the beautiful natural background.

Shop at Cabo Da Roca

Take a bus or a taxi to reach Cabo da Roca. This is a cape terrain with cliffs. The charming little lighthouse is pretty wild. There are shops around here and I collected some souvenirs from here.
